Stepping Stones Childcare Centre is situated in the Wallaceville residential area of Upper Hutt. This area is close to Trentham Army Base, Wallaceville MAF Centre, industrial factories and Government Departments. We are short walking distance to the Wallaceville Railway Station, Upper Hutt Primary School, Heretaunga College and the main shopping area of Upper Hutt. Stepping Stones is managed by the Upper Hutt Community Children's Trust. This is a Charitable Trust and is an incorporated body under the Charitable Trust Act. It is a non profit organisation which is run for the benefit of those members of the Upper Hutt Community who seek to make use of its facilities. Stepping Stones is fully licensed as a Full/All Day Care centre. The centre is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Mondays to Fridays. Stepping-Stones is open for fifty weeks of the year. The centre closes on all public holidays and for two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period. Stepping Stones comprises of two separate buildings with their own fenced off play areas. The two buildings allow for easy communication and intermixing of children providing a safe environment for movement and play of children at different ages and stages of development. The Nursery building caters for children up to the age of two years. The building is licensed for up to 12 children with a staff to child ratio of approximately 1:3. The Preschool building caters for children from the age of two to the age of eight. The building is licensed for 28 children with a ratio of approximately 1:7. Children transfer from Nursery to Preschool at approximately the age of two and from the Preschool to School at the age of five.
